Little Sparrows gather with staff members from Greenplay Cooperative at the Lake Wilderness Arboretum on May 18, 2017 to hear from Al Frank, Maple Valley Parks Operations Manager, about the redwood saplings that they will be planting in Lake Wilderness Park.

Several Little Sparrows have joined Brad Dupea, Forest School Teacher at Greenplay Cooperative, at a site where a redwood sapling is to be planted.

Shovels in hand, the work begins.

Chris Fontana, Maple Valley Parks employee, holds a redwood sapling ready for planting. Cristin Davis, Forest School Teacher, helps four Little Sparrows dig a hole, while Al Frank records the GPS data for the tree location.

The digging of the hole begins.

The tree has been placed in the hole. Now it’s time for the Little Sparrows to fill in the hole.

Finally the tree is in and the hole is filled.

Once all six redwood saplings were planted, a celebratory group photo of the 15 Little Sparrows and 4 staff members is taken to commemorate the day. Imagine these kids returning to this park 10, 20 or 50 years later and seeing the giant trees that were so small when they were planted.
